The first week of Interactive Media Production is over and so it’s time to reflect on my experience so far. The last five days have been a challenge both intellectually and creatively which can only be seen as a positive thing. Firstly our initial lecture on Visual Culture gave a real insight into the future of the course in terms of expectations in the way we critically analyse the images which surround us and the theorists whose work we should reference in relation to this. I have therefore began reading some of the writings of key theorists like Barthes’ Mythologies to start this process. The first assignment of creating 5 images with the theme ‘Nature and Technology’ and an essay has also been an interesting challenge creatively. I’ve been delving into the work of artists such as Josh Keyes who’s work centres around the idea of man’s destruction of nature through a means of depicting animals confined and isolated by technology in their own habitats. Its proving inspirational to my own creativity and I hope to develop this as the course progresses. In sum I have enjoyed the introduction to the course and look forward to opening my expression of thoughts and feelings in connection to the topics of discourse in the coming weeks.
